Halie Lavender’s softball journey begins at just six years old, right after her dance class. From the moment she throws her first pitch, she is captivated by the sport, and it quickly becomes her passion. Over the years, softball gives her more than just exciting games—it brings her lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and lessons that extend far beyond the field.

Throughout her journey, Halie has been fortunate to have an incredible group of coaches and teammates who have played a pivotal role in her growth. She credits her success to their support, with a special thanks to Coach Roy Hernandez, Coach Chance Harris, Coach Justin Walton, Coach Jed Sitar, Coach Eric Trevino, Coach David Churchill, Coach Bryan Simmons, Coach Tee Burgess (batting guru), Coach Mel (catching expert), Coach Roy Vaughan, and Coach Doug Caison (pitching maestros). Each coach has contributed to shaping her as both a player and a person.

One of Halie’s most cherished memories is winning her first softball tournament in 8U, a moment that will always hold a special place in her heart.

Her favorite player is Rachael Garcia, whose talent inspires her on the field. Outside of softball, Halie enjoys playing volleyball, balancing her athletic life with a love for another sport.

Currently, Halie’s goals include improving her math skills and one day playing professional softball. Her ambition also includes a dream of attending UCLA, where she hopes to continue her growth as an athlete.

Recently, The Alliance Fastpitch recognized Halie as Player of the Month, celebrating her outstanding contributions to the sport and her dedication to personal and athletic growth.

Her coach, Bryan Simmons, describes her as a fierce competitor on the field. Halie stands out as both a catcher and a pitcher who excels at both positions, despite being the youngest on the team. Off the field, she is known for her goofy personality and ability to make everyone laugh. Halie’s passion for softball is evident, as she is involved in the sport almost every day, never viewing her training as a chore but as something she loves.

One of Coach Simmons’ favorite memories with Halie, nicknamed “Lucky,” is when she begged him to let her run the bases after getting on base, a rare opportunity for a catcher and pitcher. During the run, as she rounds third, Halie trips and faceplants, crawling back to the base. Looking up at her coach, she laughs and says, “Okay, I see why you don’t let me run bases.” It remains one of the funniest moments Coach Simmons has ever witnessed on the field.

The Alliance Fastpitch proudly announces Kohen Gonzalez (2029) from the Texas Fastpitch League (TFL) as Player of the Month for her remarkable play in April 2024. Kohen Gonzalez, a versatile player for Texas Sudden Impact-Coker 14U, excels behind the plate. Her April stats include a .545 batting average, a .571 OBP, 6 singles and 3 RBIs.

Kohen Gonzalez’s softball journey begins after she has tried just about every sport, but it is softball that captures her heart. Her dad, a talented baseball player, inspires her to start playing by sharing countless stories from his own playing days, making the sport sound incredibly fun. He teaches her so much, fueling her passion for the game.

A cherished memory for Kohen is any game-saving play, but one stands out in particular. While playing a rival team, Kohen is catching when a ball is hit to right field. An overthrow to first occurs, but Kohen, backing up the first baseman, retrieves the ball and throws the runner out at second. The batter from that play is now her teammate, so no hard feelings remain, just a shared laugh.

Kohen’s favorite players are Koko Wooley and Julia Cottrill from the Texas A&M softball team. Outside of softball, she loves hanging out with her friends, going to the movies, playing football, having sleepovers, and just having fun. Kohen also enjoys playing volleyball and basketball for her school.

Currently, Kohen’s goals on the field include hitting a home run over the fence; she feels she is very close, having almost achieved it in a recent tournament in Louisiana. Off the field, her goal is to make all A’s in all of her classes. The Alliance Fastpitch commends Kohen on her well-deserved recognition as Player of the Month, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the sport and her commitment to personal and athletic growth.

Kohen’s coach, Peyton Coker, describes her as the team’s spark behind the plate. She excels in doing the small things right and always hustles, constantly looking for the next play. Kohen puts her teammates first and works hard for the pitchers, always sporting a smile and bringing laughter to everyone around her. Coach Coker’s favorite memory of Kohen is from a few weekends ago when she ran from home plate all the way to second base to tag out a runner who was indecisive about advancing to third. In the next inning, she hit a ball to dead center field, showcasing her strength and determination.

Chloe loves everything about the game, from the friendships she forms over the years to the fun and excitement she feels every time she steps on the field.

A cherished memory for Chloe is from the summer of 2023, when her team wins third place in the Colorado Sparkler tournament. The excitement and happiness among everyone make it a very fun time, regardless of not winning first place. This experience is one of many new ones she hopes to enjoy with her team.

Chloe’s favorite player is Danica Coffey. She loves watching LSU play, especially with Coffey on the field, admiring her incredible skill and positive energy. Outside of softball, Chloe enjoys spending time with her family and friends or watching movies on Netflix.

Chloe’s long-term goals include playing college softball at the highest level possible while working towards a degree in the medical field. The Alliance Fastpitch commends Chloe on her well-deserved recognition as Player of the Month, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the sport and her commitment to personal and athletic growth.

Chloe’s coach, Cheyenne Mata, describes her as a tremendous asset to the team, a hard worker, and a perfectionist. Chloe’s speed is untouchable, making her the ultimate utility player. She has played all three outfield positions, shortstop, second base, and even third base in a major game. She is a great teammate who will run through a brick wall for the team, always prioritizing team success over individual accolades. Chloe is also an honor student with great integrity, who loves attending church and helping others. One of Coach Mata’s favorite memories of Chloe is from when she first joined the team in January. Chloe initially struggles with the new environment, but after a conversation in which Coach Mata expresses belief in her talents, Chloe works hard and in the very next tournament hits over .500, earning the title of TFL Jr Stage #1 Offensive Player of the Tournament.

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
