One of Chloe’s favorite memories comes from this past summer when she joins the Bombers. This team helps her rediscover her love for the game, providing her with countless opportunities and experiences. Spending nearly every day together playing softball across the country rekindles her passion, and she feels deep gratitude for the friendships and experiences forged during that time.

Sophia Jackel’s softball journey begins after a lifetime of playing baseball. In March of last year, she decides to make the switch to softball, and from the very first game, she falls in love with the sport. Her natural athleticism and passion quickly shine through, making her transition seamless.

One of Sophia’s most cherished memories is from her very first day playing softball when she hit a home run. That moment solidifies her love for the game and sets the stage for the exciting journey ahead.

Her favorite player, Ava Gall, inspires her with her strength and determination both on and off the field. Outside of softball, Sophia enjoys being a part of the sports medicine team at her school, where she works closely with other athletes. Additionally, she loves working out and has the distinction of making the varsity flag football team as a freshman.

Currently, Sophia has her sights set on a career in the medical field, and she hopes to grow both academically and athletically as her softball career continues to expand over the next few years.

The Alliance Fastpitch recently honored Sophia as Player of the Month, recognizing her for her impressive contributions to the sport and her dedication to personal and athletic growth.

Her coach, Micah Rutkoff, describes Sophia as a fiercely competitive and tenacious athlete who holds herself to the highest standard. Whether she’s in the gym, the batting cage, or on the field, she refuses to be outworked. As a teammate, she stands as a natural leader, always using her positive energy to uplift those around her. Sophia’s selflessness and desire to help others extend beyond sports, as she consistently puts the needs of her friends, family, and teammates first.

One of Coach Rutkoff’s favorite memories of Sophia is from her very first Triple Crown Fastpitch tournament. Having recently transitioned from baseball to softball and with about 20 friends and family members watching her first game on a live stream, Sophia hit a 260-foot shot in just her fourth career at-bat. That moment left her thrilled, and she immediately exclaimed, “Softball is way more fun!”

The Alliance Fastpitch proudly announces Abigail Nelson (2028) from the Pacific Coast Fastpitch League (PCFL) as Player of the Month for her remarkable play in April 2024. Abigail Nelson, a versatile player for OC Batbusters Vidano, excels on both sides of the ball. Her April stats include a .222 batting average, a .318 OBP, 2 singles, 5 RBIs, and 1 stolen base. Through 24.1 innings pitched, she had 22 strikeouts and a 1.494 ERA.

Abigail Nelson’s softball journey begins at the age of six when her parents, both former softball and baseball players, sign her up to play. She starts as a catcher and transitions to pitching due to her team’s needs. After one season as a pitcher, she falls in love with the sport and the position. Abigail loves playing softball because of the team’s family aspect and the collective effort required to achieve their goals. Her dad inspires her to become a pitcher and works with her to develop her skills.

A cherished softball memory for Abigail is playing in the Triple Crown World Series in Ogden, Utah. This tournament stands out as one of her best, where she hits three over-the-fence home runs, pitches a perfect game, and creates awesome memories with her teammates.

Abigail’s favorite player is Nijaree Canady, but outside of softball, she enjoys reading, playing volleyball, and going to the beach.

Currently, Abigail’s goals include maintaining a 4.0 GPA or higher throughout high school, earning a full-ride scholarship to college for softball, and being the kind of teammate people remember. The Alliance Fastpitch commends Abigail on her well-deserved recognition as Player of the Month, acknowledging her outstanding contributions to the sport and her commitment to personal and athletic growth.

What is the Alliance Fastpitch Player Recognition Program?

The Player Recognition Program was built to recognize and spotlight our individual players in each Member League. Each month, registered Alliance Fastpitch coaches can nominate a player from their age division. League Leadership will review nominations and a monthly stats report from AthletesGoLive (AGL) to determine the League’s Player of the Month.

Following the announcement of each League’s Players of the Month, the Alliance Fastpitch will recognize a National Player of the Month. To be considered for Player of the Month, your team must score League games in AGL so your stats will be included in the League’s monthly report.
